"I pledge my support for the campaign for a Fair Deal for the Arts. The proposed £4.2m cut to the arts budget (excluding inflation) is disproportionately high compared with other sectors. These cuts will impact directly on our artists and arts organisations.
Government investment is essential to ensure that people from all backgrounds in Northern Ireland can continue to benefit from the many rewards of the arts. The arts are significant contributors to our shared future and our economic recovery, and are key to the success of our creative industries and cultural tourism.
I call upon the NI Executive to deliver a budget settlement for the arts that is fair and proportionate, in acknowledgment of the contribution that the arts make to Northern Ireland society and economy."
