Background: Sculpture erected to commemorate the life and work of Jimmy Kennedy OBE. D. Litt. Songwriter who spent much of his life in Portstewart. He wrote ‘Red Sails in the Sunset’ whilst looking out to sea from his parents home in Strand Rd. Artists Details: Niall O’Neill is based in County Wicklow. He is a well-established sculptor who has competed a number of commissions in Ireland, north and south, including ‘The Garden’ and ‘Repose’ in Dun Laoghaire and ‘Ammonite’ a public sculpture for Malahide Marina. He is a regular exhibitor in the Oireactas and Aer Rianta, and his work is included in a number of public collections.
