Glimpse into the Olympiad

Legacy Trust

The Legacy Trust UK was established to complement LOCOG and London 2012 and is independent of LOCOG. It was established to financially support the development of projects offering a lasting legacy beyond London 2012.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland opened and advertised an application process, between April and June 2008, for several lead organisations to participate as a London 2012 legacy project for Northern Ireland. Six applications were successful and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland represented them as part of a bid to the Legacy Trust UK for funding support. Northern Ireland′s six successful projects will explore the interaction between art and sport. The bid successfully raised funds in excess of £1.31 million.

These projects and events will become part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad as and when they are recognised through the Inspire programme.

Participating Legacy Trust projects are led by:

Bardic Educational Arts and Media
Ulster Orchestra
Northern Ireland Screen
The Beat Initiative
Open Arts
Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company

A Legacy Trust Programme Co-ordinator will be appointed by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland shortly and will work under the supervision of Northern Ireland′s Creative Programmer, Cian Smyth.
