Flaxart International Residency Programme

18/06/2012

The International Residency programme at Flaxart studios in Belfast provides short-term studio and living accommodation for artists visiting from abroad.

The International Residency Programme is open to all artists living outside Ireland and beyond the United Kingdom. Flaxart offers 2 artist residencies at its studio complex in the heart of Belfast. The residency lasts for 8 weeks. Over the past ten years, Flaxart has hosted artists from Europe, Asia, America and Australia.

The submission deadline is 30th June 2012 for residencies taking place up to the 31st March 2013.
Successful applicants receive a studio, accommodation and a monthly stipend for materials. Residents also have access to the Flaxart industrial-scale workshop, computer suite, video and audio equipment and the wireless broadband internet service (WI-FI). Artists can use the time to research and/or create new work stimulated by their experience of Belfast.

Flaxart particularly welcomes artists who are prepared to connect broadly with the debates emerging from the post-conflict aspect of the city. By its nature, the International Residency Programme has opened up a range of possibilities for artists and arts organisations in Belfast. Over the years, a number of partnerships have been developed and these have led to residencies, exchange programmes and an increased international awareness of Flaxart Studios as a challenging residential facility for emerging and established artists.
