TMA Award Nominations

14/10/2010

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is delighted that a number of our talented artists and arts organisations have received nominations for this year's TMA Theatre Awards.

The TMA Theatre Awards celebrate the best of British theatre from around the United Kingdom and will be presented at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, on Sunday 7 November.

Rachel O'Riordan has been nominated for a TMA Best Director Award for the Lyric's production of The Absence of Women, written by Owen McCafferty.

Thanks to National Lottery funding from the Arts Council, The Absence of Women was produced by the Lyric in February 2010 during its offsite season at Elmwood Hall, before embarking on a regional tour of Northern Ireland. Playwright Owen McCafferty also received funding via the Arts Council's Major Award scheme in 2008 to write the play.

Children's theatre company, Cahoots NI, have also been nominated for Best Children's Play for The Snail and the Whale, which proved a big hit last year at the Grand Opera House.

It is great to see talented artists rewarded for their work and the Arts Council wishes them both every success at the TMA awards.
