International Young Curators Programme - Closed

The British Council in partnership with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland is inviting applications to the International Young Curators Programme – a unique opportunity for individuals with an interest in developing a career in the visual arts.

What you get:

Through this programme you will get:

1. At least four weeks in Venice during the Biennale of Fine Art (1st June – 30th November 2009). You will be part of a team of two with the following responsibilities:

- Invigilate and maintain Northern Ireland’s exhibition (Monday – Friday, 10.00am – 6.00pm)

- Provide information and answer questions about the exhibition and the artist to visitors

- Record information about visitors

You will also:

- Have access to the exhibitions that are part of the Biennale

- Meet the delivery team at la Biennale

- Have enough free time to enjoy the uniqueness of Venice

You will be given return flights, an apartment in the centre of Venice and a stipend to cover expenses during your stay.

2. A two week placement shadowing a gallery director/curator in Northern Ireland on your return from Venice

3. Study visits to key cultural institutions in Northern Ireland, London and Dublin in Spring 2010

Travel and out of pocket expenses will be paid to all participants of the programme.

- Have a commitment to and vision for pursuing a career in the visual arts

- Demonstrate motivation, reliability and responsibility

- Have good communication skills


How much time you will give:


If successful, you will be:

- expected to attend an induction day on Monday 20th April 2009. During this day you will be fully briefed about the programme. You will meet Northern Ireland’s curator for the Venice Biennale exhibition and relevant British Council/Arts Council staff.

- expected to attend two training sessions during May. The training sessions, audience data capture and press/pr will be approximately three hours and during office hours.

- offered four lessons in basic Italian. These will be in the early evening.

- available for at least a four week period during the Venice Biennale 2009 (1st June 2009 – 30th November 2009).

- available for a two week gallery placement, training days and study visits to Dublin, Belfast and within Northern Ireland in Spring 2010.

Send your CV, a statement of no more than 500 words outlining your hopes, aspirations and interests in developing a career in visual arts and a covering letter indicating any periods that you will be unavailable between June and November 2009. - Motivation, reliability and responsibility
- Availability
