South Belfast's History Comes to Life

Ballynafeigh Community Development Association yesterday (7th May) launched a unique graphic novel illustrating life stories of the Ballynafeigh area in South Belfast. The novel entitled, Back on the Road is a collection of comic book stories which aims to preserve and reflect the area’s diverse character.

Edel Murphy, Arts Development Officer for Community Arts, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said, “Art is increasingly used by people living and working in Northern Ireland to express their identify within their communities. Back on the Road, has high-quality artwork depicting stories from the lives of many different individuals living in the area. It’s both a social document and an artistic legacy for those who were involved”.

The novel contains stories about a variety of people and places to include; Ormeau Road institutions such as the Bakery and the Curzon Cinema; young people coming back to the area and seeing changes in the local community,  Ballynafeigh Apprentice Boys Flute Band, Elgin Court Residents and Ballynafeigh Young Mens FC.
