STUDENT PLACEMENT (Ref 07/01)

 

1. Introduction

The Arts Council has one vacancy for a student placement as outlined in the Job Description.

This vacancy is in support of the officers in the Communications Team.

2. Terms and Conditions

 Appointment Period The post will be for a period of one year from an agreed start date (August 2007). The appointment may be terminated at a month’s notice by either side during the period.

Salary £10,000 per annum

Annual Leave 22 working days per annum

 

Hours of Business Office Hours Flexi-Time

Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.30pm / 8.00am to 6.30pm

Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm / 8.00am to 6.00pm

(including one hour for lunch every day)

 

The post holder may be required to work outside the Arts Council’s normal office and flexi-time hours.

 

Office Location The post is based at the Arts Council’s headquarters, 77 Malone Road, Belfast. This is a non-smoking building.

4. Shortlisting

 

Initial shortlisting will be carried out using the Essential requirements in the Person Specification. Should further shortlisting be necessary, the Desirable requirements will be applied in the order shown.

The interviews for this post will be scheduled for April 2007.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

A vacancy exists in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Communications Team for an enthusiastic and creative person who is keen to gain hands on work experience in the corporate communications team, specifically in the areas of public relations and marketing. Whilst the person appointed will be a member of the Communications Team and would therefore gain valuable experience in all areas of communications, public relations, marketing and advertising, there are a number of specific project(s) which the person may be responsible for. These include:

 

Brand Awareness Campaign

 

The Arts Council has identified certain demographic areas and age-groups where our brand awareness needs to be improved. The person appointed would be responsible for devising and implementing a marketing campaign that will effectively target these areas of low brand awareness eg the youth market.

 

Arts Council Annual Conference

 

The Arts Council holds an annual conference, which raises the profile of the arts and encourages arts professionals to engage in debate about the arts in Northern Ireland. The person appointed will gain valuable experience in organising and marketing a major event.

 

Regular Proactive Public Relations Activities

 

The Arts Council regularly produces newsworthy stories highlighting the arts and artists at home and abroad. The person appointed will be expected to develop, with support from the Communications Team, news releases, good PR photography and media liaison skills that increase awareness of the arts and the work of the Arts Council in national, provincial and online media.

 

Media Monitoring

 

The person appointed will be expected to support the media monitoring function within the department. He or she will help to update and maintain media and photographic databases and develop media analysis skills.


 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

The applicant should be a current undergraduate on the Communications, Advertising and Marketing (CAM) degree course.
