Curated Visual Arts Award |
23/02/2007
The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin and Void, Derry, wish to invite submissions for a new visual arts award to be curated by the artist Mike Nelson.
Two artists – one from the Republic of Ireland and one from Northern Ireland – will be selected and will be provided with an award to a combined value of €56,000 to make and exhibit new work at the Douglas Hyde and Void galleries in late 2007 and early 2008.
The purpose of the award is to enable the selected artists to produce pivotal work that will advance their own practice. The exhibitions will provide the work with significant public platforms both North and South.
Artists are invited to apply who would benefit at this point of their career from a concentrated period of six months realising an ambitious project. This opportunity is about timing as much as it is about individual practitioners. We are looking for artists who will make the most of this opportunity both within their own lives and in relation to the wider world they operate in be it family, town, city, state or continent.
Artists will be assessed on their past work along with the intent or potential that it may suggest and with any proposal they may wish to submit. Artists are encouraged to consider the implications of the sites and spaces in which they will show - this consideration could range from the obvious to the obscure.
Shortlisted artists will be asked to develop their ideas for presentation in early May.
