Community Arts Forum Director wins
‘Women of Achievement’ Award
 

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland congratulates Heather Floyd, recent winner of the Arts category of this year’s Women of Achievement Awards. The awards hosted by Save the Children Northern Ireland, recognise the significant contribution made by local women in the fields of Business, Education, Community and the Arts.

Gavin O’Connor, Arts Development Officer at the Arts Council said, “This award gives recognition to the positive contribution made by the arts to our local communities. The Arts Council is delighted that Heather’s work with the Community Arts Forum, has been acknowledged as instrumental in supporting communities across the North of Ireland. She has made a significant contribution to arts led regeneration and development projects and is supporting the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in its vision to place the arts at the heart of social, economic and creative life in Northern Ireland.”

Heather said, “I am delighted to have been nominated by Gavin and selected. I hope this award will raise the profile of Community Arts. I also hope it will draw attention to the impact this work has in regenerating our towns and cities and contributing to social cohesion.”

Heather Floyd is Director of the Community Arts Forum, Belfast, the umbrella and networking organization for Community Arts in Northern Ireland. She started working with the organization in 1999 as training officer. With her roots firmly in Community Development, Heather previously worked for eight years in Shankill Women’s Centre managing the centre’s education and cultural programs. She has also been a key member of the ‘Let’s Get It Right’ campaign since its inception, a group established to campaign for arts development in the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast.
