A flavour of the Orient at Ormeau Baths Gallery

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is delighted to announce details of exciting new art exhibitions for 2007 at the Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast. The new programme is packed full of talent from home and abroad, including a taste of the Orient with Korean ceramics and a focus on life in Northern Ireland through the lens of the Northern Ireland Press Photographers Association.

Arts Council Chief Executive, Roísin McDonough , said “The 2007 programme reflects a unique line up of international and new local art to start the year. I’m confident that it will appeal to a wide variety of people, and will continue to offer an inspiring and challenging experience to all our visitors.”

The programme opens on January 13 th 2007 withthe Ireland premier of Tradition Transformed, a touring exhibition of contemporary Korean Ceramics by internationally celebrated craft makers. This exhibition is accompanied by Ignition, a display of craft by eight of Northern Ireland’s most promising young artists from the MA applied arts course at the University of Ulster.

Following in March is The Black Dragon River, an exhibition of Chinese art by artists from the Heilongjiang in the Peoples Republic of China, presented by the Mandarin Speakers Association. Alongside this exhibition is a selection of photographs by members of the Northern Ireland Press Photographers Association, revealing life in Northern Ireland from the 1970s to the present.

The programme of exhibitions at the Ormeau Baths Gallery is supported by a full programme of education events, talks and workshops, with particular emphasis on creative activities for children and young people.
