A family Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without the Ulster Orchestra’s annual Snowman concert. At today’s concert the Arts Council of Northern Ireland spread a little extra festive cheer when they gave away chocolate snowmen to hundreds of delighted children, to celebrate 40 great years of partnership with the Ulster Orchestra.
The Snowman , a little boy’s adventure, captured so magically in the animated film by Raymond Briggs, provided the backdrop to the orchestra’s live soundtrack. Conductor Christopher Bell led the musical festivities for the fun one hour event.

Robert Collins, Arts Council music officer, said, “ The Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Ulster Orchestra have shared 40 successful years together, bringing the delights of the full orchestra experience to Northern Ireland. The Snowman concert is now a popular musical fixture in the traditional run up to Christmas and it is a wonderful way to introduce a new generation of music lovers to the Ulster Orchestra.”
As a special treat the Arts Council also provided 3 feet tall chocolate Santas to two children judged winners of the festive fancy dress competition.
The Ulster Orchestra is one of the Arts Council’s biggest clients and supports the Council in its vision to place the arts at the heart of social, economic and creative life in Northern Ireland.
