Catch Your Connection
Young carnival performers from the Belfast Beat Initiative brought a little colour to the day for busy commuters as they helped to launch the Arts Council’s ‘What’s Your Connection?’ bus stop poster campaign.
The ‘What’s Your Connection?’ campaign has been organised in response to an Arts Council Omnibus survey. This found that although the level of participation in the arts by young people is extremely high at 90 percent, 33 percent admitted that they felt out of place in a gallery, museum or theatre. The Arts Council’s campaign aims to encourage young people to broaden their involvement with the full range of arts.

N óirín McKinney, Director of Arts Development at the Arts Council said , “Youth culture is strongly linked to arts and creativity, particularly through music, fashion and film. Indeed, 65 percent told us that arts and culture help to enrich the quality of their lives. We’d like to see young people take their interests a step further by becoming more actively involved in the great range of creative activities offered by our local arts organizations – from circus skills and DJ-ing to poetry writing and drawing classes”.
The idea behind the ‘What’s Your Connection?’ campaign is to prompt young people to follow the link to the Arts Council’s website, where they’ll find all sorts of inspiring arts activities and useful contacts to arts organisations.
