Artist Commission - Alternative City Guide for The Power of Art - BBC series

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland would like to commission an artist to create an alternative city guide art tour of Belfast. This will compliment the BBC’s Power of Art TV series.

Throughout the UK, artists have been commissioned to produce an alternative art tour for the web and mobile devices that would explore the power of art in their city.

Each artist will tour and document the city in their region to produce an exclusive guide available via next generation websites. The artist and their work including an image will be featured on the BBC website with an introduction to the project.

Commission opportunity

One contemporary artist will be given the task of taking an eight hour (minimum) tour around Belfast to document the city’s art, buildings, and public spaces. From this data they will create a guide to their city for the web and mobile phones - using audio, video, photographs and drawings etc to take people on a unique tour of the city. The work in progress should be documented as part of the project.

Artists are invited to submit a detailed proposal for how they would produce an alternative tour and the elements they would propose to include by 14 th November. Proposals should be submitted to Suzanne Lyle, slyle@artscouncil-ni.org.

Submissions will then be considered and the artist will be awarded the contract within one week. The work has to be completed by 6 th December. It will be important to complete the work on the project within 3 weeks of being awarded the contract in order for the artist to benefit from the BBC links to the current series.

The fee for the work will be £4,000 and this should include all costs of the project.
