Playing in Belfast for the very first time, Big Telly’s acclaimed water show is the first ever large-scale theatre production set entirely in a swimming pool. Based on the original Hans Christian Andersen tale of a mermaid’s first visit to the surface, the heart warming tale is told through thrilling action sequences, technical wizardry, spectacular effects and an unforgettable soundtrack. The combination of stunning lighting, spectacular set design and imaginative costumes create a different world where skilled performers use athletic swimming as an expressive language to reveal this haunting fairytale.

The company and all those involved are delighted with the phenomenal response and exceptional reviews received for ‘The Little Mermaid’. The cast of eight have performed 100 sell-out shows to over 25,000 individuals over the course of 2005/06.

Gilly Campbell, Arts Development Officer at the Arts Council said, “We are delighted to see that through National Lottery funding we have helped Big Telly Theatre Company produce such a creative theatre production. ‘The Little Mermaid’ is a superb example of how innovation and excellence can introduce young children to the theatre.”

Big Telly is currently working on its second pool show based on the stories of Sinbad the Sailor, which will premiere in Autumn 2007. Big Telly’s water-spectacular ‘The Little Mermaid’ is playing as part of Belfast Festival, at the Grove Leisure Centre, Belfast.
