Student Placement Vacancies 1. Introduction The Arts Council has 2 vacancies for student placements as outlined in the attached Job Descriptions. These vacancies are in support of the officers in the Communications Team and the IT Team. You must indicate clearly which vacancy you are interested in using the appropriate application form, (downloadable below). 2. Terms and Conditions Appointment Period The posts will be for a period of one year from an agreed start date. The appointment may be terminated at a month’s notice by either side during the period. Salary £10,000 per annum Annual Leave 22 working days per annum.
The post holder may be required to work outside the Arts Council’s normal office and flexi-time hours. Office Location The post is based at the Arts Council’s headquarters, 77 Malone Road, Belfast. The applicant should be studying an ICT related discipline. The Arts Council makes use of a Microsoft Windows network, which has recently been upgraded to Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP Professional desktop. There are approximately 50 PCs and a range of printers within the organisation. JOB DESCRIPTION A vacancy exists in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s IT Section for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person who is keen to gain hands on work experience in IT. Whilst the person appointed will be a member of the IT Team and would therefore gain valuable experience in a wide range of IT areas, including: ACNI Web Sites The Arts Council maintains a number of web sites, and is working on the development of new sites to promote the arts from Northern Ireland. Currently active sites include: ACNI Web Site – www.artscouncil-ni.org Future planned sites will showcase the work of local artists, make the Arts Council collection available online, a database of Northern Irish composers and a data base of international opportunities for local artists. These web sites are being developed using HTML, ASP and SQL and the successful candidate would be given experience in working in this area of application development. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of image, audio and video editing in order to prepare content for these web sites. Document Management During 2006/2007, the Arts Council will be introducing a new electronic document management system across the organisation. As electronic document management will be rolled out across the public sector over the next number of years, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in an area of growing importance within IT in the public sector. JOB DESCRIPTION A vacancy exists in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Communications Team for an enthusiastic and creative person who is keen to gain hands on work experience in communications and marketing. Whilst the person appointed will be a member of the Communications Team and would therefore gain valuable experience in all areas of communications, media, marketing and advertising, there are a number of specific project(s) which the person would be responsible for. These include: Brand Awareness PR Campaign The Arts Council has commissioned a study which has identified certain demographic areas and age-groups where our brand awareness needs to be improved. The person appointed would be responsible for devising and implementing a promotional/marketing/advertising campaign that will effectively target these areas of low brand awareness. Arts Council Annual Lecture The Arts Council holds an Annual Arts Lecture/Conference, which raises the profile of the arts and encourages arts professionals to engage in debate about the arts in Northern Ireland. The person appointed will gain valuable experience in organising and marketing a major event. Political Mapping The Arts Council is keen to develop its lobbying strategy to keep political representatives informed about the arts in the local district councils and/or constituencies. The person appointed would be responsible for developing the existing system in order to enable the Arts Council to communicate more effectively with this constituent group. He/she will also represent the Arts Council, alongside another Arts Council staff member, at the annual Party Political Conferences in Northern Ireland.
