PS1 Announcement The Arts Council of Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland established the PS1 Fellowship in 1986 to afford visual artists the opportunity to live and work at the PS1 Visual Arts Centre in Long Island City (New York) for a period of twelve months culminating in a year-end exhibit as part of the International Residency Programme. In 2002, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland conducted a review of the PS1 Fellowship to consider the future of this programme. At its April 2002 meeting, having received the views of artists and arts organisations, the Arts Council agreed to continue the PS1 residency. However, PS1 were not able to allocate a residency at this time and Northern Ireland was put on the waiting list. On Friday 20 February 2004 the PS1 Visual Arts Centre announced their decision to discontinue the International Artist Residency Programme. The Arts Council of Northern Ireland remains committed to the encouragement of medium and long term artists residency opportunities. As well as current residencies in Banff, the British School at Rome , the MacDowell Colony and the funding made available through the Self-Arranged Residency Programme, ACNI will pursue a new range of residency opportunities in New York. |
