In June 2000, Ballymacarrett Arts & Cultural Society received funding from Co-operation Ireland under the E.U. Programme for Peace and Reconciliation to develop the society’s work on a cross-border basis. The resulting Drama & Arts Across Borders project ran for 12 months and involved ten exchanges and, in the border counties of the Republic of Ireland, performances of two plays written, directed and performed by people from working class Protestant/Unionist areas in Belfast. The plays dealt with issues that concerned the Unionist community and examined aspects of culture and traditional heritage.

The report, written by Brid Ruddy, offers a detailed evaluation of the initiative.
