Nominations Sought THE IRELAND CHAIR OF POETRY The Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, have with The Queen's University, Belfast, Trinity College, Dublin and University College, Dublin, established the Ireland Chair of Poetry to celebrate the exceptional contribution of Irish poets to the world of literature. The first holder of the office, Professor John Montague, will complete his term of office in October 2001. The Chair is open to poets of achievement and distinction (writing in English or Irish), whose work accords with the objectives of the Chair. The public or poets themselves are invited to suggest suitable candidates for the Chair which will be considered by the five institutions. The Trustees are committed to equal opportunities for all. The Chair will be tenable for three years (not renewable), during which time the holder will be attached to each of the three universities for a year at a time, and will be required to be in residence at each for a period of approximately an academic term in each year. In addition, the holder will deliver three formal presentations and hold at least three other informal workshops or readings. It is hoped to arrange publication of work at the end of the tenure. The value of the Professorship will be £20,000 per annum to the holder. The adjudicating panel will consist of representatives of the five founding institutions and a distinguished poet.
