Please also note that the Arts Council (working with other statutory cultural agencies) will shortly have a panel of expert consultants available to work with District Councils. It is intended that the Conference will be an important milestone in this process and help Councils develop rigorous and effective plans.
Day One – Tuesday 25th September 2001
Integrated Cultural Planning – why should we bother?
The arts cross boundaries. They unlock the imagination and build self-confidence among individuals and communities. They contribute to economic growth.
District Councils in Northern Ireland have been asked to produce Integrated Plans, which in part is driven by the European Union’s PEACE II Programme. These will provide a unique opportunity for assuring the future development of Northern Ireland, it’s prosperity, the well-being of its citizens and the reconciliation of its communities.
The arts and culture are part of the fabric of any society, they can help government, both local and regional, address the key challenges it faces in health, employment, education, the environment and crime;
How can these Plans reflect cross cutting themes?
With this in mind, the Arts Council, the Forum for Local Government and the Arts and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure have launched a Hands On practical planning process, of which the Mainstreaming the Arts – A Conference for Local Government is a key component.
