Weightless Pride in Stainless Towers
Andrew Coombes (b.1962, London)
Andrew Coombes studied at Amersham College of Further Education, Camberwell School of Art and Craft and the University of Ulster, from which he obtained an MA in Fine Art in 1985. His work uses charcoal, pastel and mixed media on paper and the works are experiences of familiar places and the surrounding environment. Coombes had one-person-shows at the On the Wall Gallery, Belfast and the Solomon Gallery, London. His work has also been exhibited extensively in London. In 1983 Coombes won the best painting by an artist under 30 in the ‘Spirit of London’ competition and in 1985 he was awarded the Charles H Revson Fellowship at the New York Studio School.
