Anne Carlisle studied at the Ulster Polytechnic from 1975-6 and at the University of Ulster from 1976-79 moving to Chelsea School of Art where she received an MA in 1980. She was managing editor of Circa Art Magazine from 1983-89 and has been lecturing in Wales since leaving Northern Ireland. She is currently Head of the Department of Art and Design at University of Wales College, Newport. Her work is wide-ranging, semi-abstract in nature and sometimes concerned with social and political issues. Much of her recent work which has explored the position of the viewer of her work has involved the use of electronically controlled interactive and multimedia systems. Carlisle has had many solo exhibitions and installations and her work is included in many public and private collections.
