Landscape painter Romeo Toogood began his career as a painter and decorater. He later went to the Belfast School of Art where he taught part-time before going to the Royal College of Art in London. He taught at a number of schools over the years: at Larne Technical School, Dungannon Technical School, Down High School and Friends’ School, Lisburn. In 1949 he took up the post of painting and drawing master at the Belfast College of Art, and among his students there were Basil Blackshaw, T P Flanagan and Cherith McKinstry. He enjoyed painting in the Lagan Valley and Cushendun areas. Under the auspices of CEMA, his work was shown at the Piccolo Gallery in Belfast in 1958. His work is represented in the Ulster Museum collection.
