Sculptor Deirdre O’Connell studied at Hertfordshire College of Art and Design, North Staffordshire Polytechnic and the University of Ulster. In 1987 she received the Arts Council of Northern Ireland British School at Rome Fellowship. O’Connell’s work deals with notions of power, culture and identity while incorporating aspects of the architectural environment. Her sculptures are mostly in plaster. She has exhibited her sculptural work as well as her drawings extensively. She has had solo exhibitions at the Orchard Gallery, Derry, the Green on Red Gallery, Dublin and the Fenderesky Gallery in Belfast. Her work has also been shown in Japan, USA, Canada, Rome and Poland.
