Philip Napier (b. 1965, Belfast)

Philip Napier studied at Manchester Polytechnic, Falmouth School of Art, Cornwall and the University of Ulster from which he obtained an MA in Fine Art in 1989. Napier’s work explores issues of power and cultural identity and often involves the incorporation of movement and sound. In 1991 he was awarded the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s British School at Rome Fellowship and in 1994 he represented Ireland at the Sao Paolo Biennale in Brazil. His work has been shown in many exhibitions in Ireland, the UK and internationally, venues including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Santa Monica Museum, California, Centres George Pompidou, the Fenderesky Gallery, Belfast and Kerlin Gallery, Dublin. His work is included in the collection of the Arts Council of Great Britain.
