Alphonso Monreal (b.1953, Zacatecas, Mexico)

Alfonso Monreal began his career with the study of architecture in Guanajuato University in his native Mexico after which he moved to the renowned ‘Atelier 17’ in Paris in 1976. He lectured in printmaking in Barcelona from 1978-79. In 1981 he was appointed Director of Restoration for the Musea Pedro Coronel in Zacatecas, Mexico where he also lectured in Fine Art. Monreal is well known as a printmaker but has more recently been concentrating on painting or a combination of the two techniques. He has had over thirty solo shows which have taken place in venues in Mexico, Barcelona, Belfast, Dublin and Derry. His work was selected for the Chicago International ‘Art Expo’ in 1994. Monreal has been the recipient of many awards and has worked on many significant commissions for murals and prints.
