Now working in Sligo, Sean McSweeney follows in the tradition of ‘romantic’ painting going back to Patrick Collins and Jack Yeats. A rich colorist he is known for his abstract expressionistic approach to the painting of landscape. He is largely self-taught. He has had solo exhibitions at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin and Taylor Galleries, Dublin and has participated in many group shows. His work is contained in the collections of the Ulster Museum, Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, Trinity College, Dublin and Dublin City University. Sean McSweeney is a member of Aosdana.
