Rachel Speed

Rachel Speed is a graduate from the University Of Ulster Belfast with a degree in Art and Design. Through study abroad at LaGrange College, Georgia in the United States, Rachel focused her interest in photography.
To create her art Rachel explores her surrounding environment, the camera recording the places she discovers. Places that have been abandoned and that are in a state of decay are of a particular personal interest. Using the camera to examine how these places change through deterioration and vandalism, creating a new aesthetic.
Influences on Rachel’s work are Ansel Adams, Robert Rauschenberg, Paul Seawright and Victor Sloan. Themes that run through her photography are colour, pattern and the physical environment and political environment of Northern Ireland.
