Artform Definition

The Arts Council encourages a diverse range of dance projects: from direct assistance for individual dancers with new work projects to assistance for professional dance companies to produce and tour throughout Northern Ireland.

We encourage artistic excellence and innovative approaches in the creation of dance; supporting dance which reaches audiences throughout the region.

The Arts Council embraces collaborative partnerships which strengthen and develop the dance infrastructure and creates opportunities for skills development.

The Council aims to make dance accessible to diverse audiences and participants in varied contexts.

Current initiatives

• The Arts Council of Northern Ireland provides funding to the University of Ulster for its dance degree course at the Magee campus in Derry.
  

• We participate in advisory panels to government agencies.
  

• We fund a wide range of activities, through both revenue and lottery resources which are aimed at the creation and production of dance and promoting participation and developing audiences.
  

• The Arts Council invites applications for its Support for the Individual Artist Programme from dance practitioners seeking to develop their individual practice.
